“You don’t know me, James. You never did. I am not seeking forgiveness.” No, apparently you’re not. For me, your saddest scene was not your execution of Jimmy — your surrogate son — but on the porch with Eli, when he cluelessly asks you about Julius Caesar: “there was a character named Eli?” That’s the card you were dealt for a brother, Nuck. Stupid, helpless, duplicitous. What can you do with him? I don’t think you believed him for a second. You knew that he was jealous of you, resented you, and wanted you dead; you knew that Jimmy was telling the truth—that he hadn’t wanted you killed, but had been powerless, in a way, to stop it. Your anger at what you have to do is all over your face as Jimmy tries to talk you through his own murder: “You had everything going for you.” But you still pick your brother over Jimmy because Jimmy should have known better. With Van Alden in Cicero, Jimmy “re-enlisted,” The Commodore dead, and the federal prosecutor off his back, Nucky’s running out of adversaries. Fortunately for us, he just got married. A”

“Alicia is in full-on mom mode now and seems to be rethinking her priorities. Now that she’s ended things with Will (sadness), she has more time on her hands to…well, vacuum and watch commercials for Joan of Arc porn. What? Yeah, it didn’t make sense to me either. It was sort of heartbreaking to hear her say she’s not in love with Will, but was in love with the idea of Will. Come on, how can anyone not be in love with Will? I think a lot was left unsaid in terms of their relationship, so let’s just call it paused, not stopped for good. I kind of can’t wrap my mind around the fact that she and Peter are like, laughing together. They are both freakishly good at pretending nothing went wrong. But that was the whole theme of the episode — Alicia trying to figure out what went wrong not only with their case, but with her life. She suddenly realizes she has no real friends (they’re probably on Facebook, suggests her fantastic brother Owen). But guess who she used to be friends with…Kalinda! They interacted in what felt like the first time in a long time and Alicia finally discovered that it was Kalinda who rescued Grace from the clutches of the Christian cult and even goes so far as to thank her for her help. Not only that, but Alicia volunteered to bail Kalinda out and defended her to Cary. Should we bust out the BFF necklaces or is it too soon? “I am a parent and I have to stop being irresponsible.” –Alicia…just before throwing back a shot. Alicia loves shots. Is it just me or was Alicia drinking throughout most of this ep? I love that she takes shots rather than ordering an actual drink. And um, did the end of the episode imply that she and Diane are becoming gal pals? I don’t know how I feel about that. A-”
